Rev. William C. Smith, 86, of Norwalk, died in Notre Dame Convalescent Home on Tuesday, August 28th. Born in East Norwalk, January 11, 1921, son of the late Patrick and Elizabeth McNamara Smith, he attended St. Joseph’s School in South Norwalk; St. Thomas Seminary, Bloomfield, CT and St. Bernard’s Seminary, Rochester, New York, and was ordained in St. Joseph Cathedral, Hartford, on December 22, 1945, by Archbishop O’Brien. Father Smith served in the following appointments: St. John Parish, Stamford, Mount St. Joseph, West Hartford, Immaculate Conception, Waterbury, St. Brendan, New Haven, St. Bernard, Sharon, and retired in October of 1992 after eighteen years at St. Francis Church, New Milford. Living in Norwalk, Father Smith assisted at Notre Dame Convalescent Home; St. Philip Church; St. Mary’s Church in Norwalk, St. Mary’s Church, Ridgefield, where he became active in the Knights of Columbus, and St. Thomas the Apostle Church in East Norwalk. He is survived by several nieces and nephews. Father Smith was predeceased by five brothers; Joseph Patrick Smith, Rev. James Francis Smith, Thomas Martin Smith, John Timothy Smith, Daniel Michael Smith and four sisters; Helen Elizabeth Canevari, Katherine Anne Smith, and Elizabeth Frances Nichols, and Mary Eileen Parker. Friends may call at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 203 East Avenue, East Norwalk, Friday from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. The Parish Mass will be celebrated at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be con-celebrated Saturday at St. Thomas the Apostle Church at 10:00 AM., Most Rev. Henry J. Mansell, D.D., Archbishop of Hartford, will be celebrant. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Norwalk. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Notre Dame Convalescent Home 76 West Rocks Road Norwalk, CT 06851.

Long Time Darien Resident
Jeanette Hanley Lawrence, a resident of Darien since 1935, passed away on Tuesday, August 28, 2007 in Darien. Born in 1926 in Irvington, NJ, she was the daughter of the late John A. and Margaretta (Lackner) Hanley. She was 81. Jeanette was a graduate of Darien High School, class of 1944; Merrill’s Business School in Stamford and Larson Junior College presently Quinnipiac College. She was a 50 year member of Noroton Presbyterian Church, a member of the 60+ Club, the Darien Community Association and AARP. She was a former Darien Park and Recreation Commission member because of her life long love of boating, swimming and the Darien beaches. She was a former member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Noroton Fire Department and a 30 year member of the Association of Traditional Hooking Artists. Jeanette was the beloved mother of Jed Lawrence and his wife Deb; Doug Lawrence; Cyndee Rogers and her husband Pat all of Darien and Jay Lawrence of Brookfield, CT. She was the beloved grandmother of Sarah Appel and her husband Pete; Kyle Lawrence and Patrick and Tricia Rogers all of Darien; Abigail and Michelle Lawrence of Norwalk. A brother Jack Hanley of Darien; four nieces and two nephews also survive. She is also survived by her companion of the last 12 years Don Pastuszak of Stamford. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward G. Lawrence in 1984. The family will receive friends at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien on Friday, August 31, 2007 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at the Noroton Presbyterian Church, 2011 Post Road, Darien on Saturday, September 1, 2007 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien. Sandra Anne Tasco Eastland, 54, of Norwalk, CT, wife to Michael Eastland, passed away Tuesday, August 28, 2007. Born in Norwalk, CT, July 26, 1953 to John C. and Violet Dorr Tasco, she will be remembered as a loving wife and aunt and as a hard worker. “Sandy” enjoyed travel and journeyed throughout the Mediterranean and Europe as well as to Alaska, Australia and New Zealand. In addition to her father, mother and husband, Mrs. Eastland is survived by her sister Donna Tasco of Norwalk, CT and by her niece, Colleen Tasco-Saja and her husband Chris of Shelton, CT. She was predeceased by her brother John Tasco. Friends may call Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue Norwalk.
